James W. Noyce

James W. Noyce is chief executive officer of FBL Financial Group, Inc., West Des Moines, Iowa. FBL’s primary operating subsidiaries include Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company and EquiTrust Life Insurance Company, and the management of Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company and Western Agricultural Insurance Company.

 

Noyce joined FBL in 1985 as financial planning vice president. In 1991, he was promoted to vice president - controller, a position he held until 1996. He served as chief financial officer from 1996 until December 2006. Noyce was also executive vice president and general manager of Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company and Western Agricultural Insurance Company from January 2000 through July 2001.

 

Before joining FBL Financial Group, Noyce was controller for Professional Mutual Insurance Company, Kansas City, Mo., and a staff accountant with a concentration on insurance companies and hospitals with Peat Marwick Mitchell, Kansas City, Mo.

 

Noyce is a Certified Public Accountant, a Fellow of Casualty Actuarial Society, Member of American Academy of Actuaries, Associate of the Society of Actuaries and a Fellow of Life Management Institute.

 

 He authored “Financial Integrity and Compliance Success,” a chapter in the book, Inside the Minds- CFO Leadership Strategies, published in 2005 by Aspatore books.

 

Noyce holds bachelor’s degrees in Actuarial Science and Accounting from Drake University, Des Moines.

 

In May 2007, Noyce received the Iowa Society of Certified Public Accountants Outstanding CPA in Business and Industry award. He also received the Junior Achievement Silver Achievement Award for exemplary leadership and support in 1994, and was a part of Leadership Iowa, class of 1992-93, sponsored by the Iowa Association of Business and Industry.

 

Noyce currently serves on the board of directors of United Way of Central Iowa and is a part of the cabinet for the 2007 campaign. He serves on Special Olympics Iowa board of directors where he chaired a capital campaign committee that raised $2 million for new headquarters. He is a member of the board of trustees for Grand View College, Des Moines. In addition he serves on the board of directors for Mid-Iowa Council of Boy Scouts and the Greater Des Moines Partnership. He is past president of the West Des Moines Rotary Club and Des Moines Golf and Country Club, and he is past chairman for Junior Achievement of Central Iowa.
